PEECO Specialty Flow Switches

PEECO specialty flow switches extend the proven PEECO flow-actuated mechanism to demanding applications where standard paddle switches are not appropriate. Specialty configurations cover gas service, sanitary (3-A) food and pharmaceutical applications, extreme temperature service (both high and cryogenic), and pipeline pig detection.

Like all PEECO products, specialty switches are custom-engineered for the application. Northeast Controls Inc. can assist with selection, sizing, and application engineering.

Specialty Switch Types

Gas Service Flow Switches

Specifically designed for gas and vapor service where standard liquid-service switches may not provide reliable actuation. Lightweight internals and calibrated springs for low-density fluids. Available for air, nitrogen, natural gas, steam, and other gases.

Pipe sizes: 1/4" to 4" standardPressure: to 600 PSI standardTemperature: -450°F to +2,000°FFluids: Air, N₂, natural gas, steam, process gases

Sanitary Flow Switches (3-A)

PEECO sanitary flow switches with Tri-Clamp (Tri-Clover) connections meet 3-A sanitary standards for food, dairy, beverage, and pharmaceutical service. All wetted surfaces are 316L stainless steel with a polished finish. No crevices or dead legs.

Connections: Tri-Clamp (1.5", 2", 2.5", 3")Material: 316L SS, Ra ≤ 32 µin finishApprovals: 3-A Sanitary StandardCIP/SIP compatible

High Temperature Flow Switches

For process temperatures above 300°F where the switch mechanism must be isolated from the process heat. A finned body extension (heat dissipator) is installed between the process connection and the switch housing, reducing the temperature at the switch to an acceptable level.

Process temperature: to +2,000°FFinned extension: standard or extended lengthSwitch housing temperature: maintained below 300°FAvailable with any enclosure type

Cryogenic Flow Switches

For service at extremely low temperatures — liquid nitrogen (-320°F), liquid oxygen (-297°F), liquid argon (-303°F), and other cryogenic fluids. Special low-temperature materials and seals. Extended stem to keep the switch housing above the cryogenic temperature range.

Temperature: to -450°FMaterials: 316SS, Monel, or InconelSeals: PTFE or metal-to-metalExtended stem standard

Pig Detector Switches

Detects the passage of pipeline pigs (scrapers, spheres, or foam pigs) in oil & gas transmission and distribution pipelines. Rugged construction for field installation. Provides a pulse output as the pig passes the detector location.

Pipe sizes: 2" to 36" and largerPressure: to 1,500 PSI standardOutput: momentary contact closureEnclosure: NEMA 4 or NEMA 7/9

Typical Applications

  • Food and dairy processing lines (sanitary)
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing (3-A)
  • Steam and condensate systems (high temp)
  • Cryogenic storage and transfer
  • Natural gas and compressed air systems
  • Oil & gas pipeline pig detection
  • Beverage and brewing operations
  • Liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen service
