Jacoby Tarbox® Sight Flow Indicators

Since 1914, Jacoby Tarbox has served the Process Industries with the widest and most comprehensive range of Sight Flow Indication Products. Available in flanged, threaded, and special connections with rotator, flapper, drip-tube, or plain indicator styles. Operating pressures from 20 PSIG to 3000 PSIG. Full ASME B31.1 & B31.3 rated construction.

Since 1914, Jacoby Tarbox has served the Process Industries with the widest and most comprehensive range of Sight Flow Indication Products and Solutions in the world. Sight flow indicators provide an effective way to view the condition of liquids or solids flow through pipelines at most any flow, pressure, or temperature — a major advantage over electronic devices where it is difficult to distinguish if there is a flow problem or malfunction.

Jacoby Tarbox Sight Flow Indicators assure a direct and positive indication of flow rate, flow direction, and condition of the medium being transported, plus enable a means of inspecting pipelines for dirt, scale, and foreign matter.

Indicator Types

Flapper

Indicates flow by the position of a vane or flapper in the center of the viewing window. Recommended for transparent or slightly opaque solutions. Bi-directional, designed for horizontal and upward vertical flow. Frequently specified for gases as well as liquids.

Rotary

Indicates flow by the spinning of a rotor. Suitable for any flow direction and especially suited for dark solutions. Rotor motion is easily seen from great distances. Recommended for uses with transparent solutions or gases where flow rate detection is needed.

Drip

For vertical downward flow applications in distillation and similar systems involving extremely low or intermittent flow. Absolutely no obstruction to downward flow. Plain models without drip tubes operate effectively with flow in any direction.

Ball

For low-volume, vertical upward flow applications, particularly those involving slow-moving solutions. The ball is highly visible to indicate flow accurately at a glance.

Tube

For low-pressure vertical or horizontal flow requiring maximum visibility. Models vary in length up to 48 inches and tube diameters up to 13 inches. Should be used only in systems that do not place mechanical strains on the pipeline.

Cylindrical Sheathed-Tube

Provides the high visibility of regular tube models, along with sheathing to increase support and protection of the indicator, and takes some degree of mechanical strain.

Factors in Specification

Operating pressures and temperatures — affects choice of body, seal, and viewing glass material
Characteristics of the medium — opacity, viscosity, corrosiveness, chemical and physical properties
Characteristics of the process — flow rate, volume, direction (horizontal, upward/downward vertical)
Installation — physical make-up of process line, accessibility, and space limitations
