Single-Stream Continuous Flow Diverter

Divert Flow Without Interrupting the Process

The HICORP 3-Way valve has three ports — one common and two equipment-train ports — and diverts a single process stream between two trains without interrupting flow. It is the compact solution when only one stream (supply or return, not both) needs to be switched.

For applications requiring complete isolation of the off-line train on both supply and return, two 3-Way valves or a single 6-Way valve are used. The 3-Way is often the right choice for simpler single-circuit switching, or where space constraints make a 6-Way impractical.

Available in carbon steel or 304L / 316L stainless steel with Buna-N, Viton®, or Neoprene seals to match your process fluid and temperature requirements.

HICORP 3-way transfer valve — positive mechanical shoe-seal design, flanged connections

HICORP 3-Way Transfer Valve

Standard Features

  • Single inlet to one of two outlet trains — or reverse
  • Positive mechanical shoe-seal — zero leakage in both positions
  • Continuous flow changeover — no shutdown or pressure loss
  • Stainless steel operating shaft and internal mechanism
  • Low operating torque — manual or actuated operation
  • API 614 designed and tested
  • Flanged (150# / 300#) or butt-weld connections
  • Available in carbon steel or 304L / 316L stainless steel
  • Internals interchangeable with HYCOA JR-33

3-Way vs. 6-Way — Which Do You Need?

Choose the 3-Way when:

  • Only one stream (supply or return) needs switching
  • Space constraints limit valve size
  • A simpler single-circuit diverter is sufficient
  • Two 3-Way valves will be used for full isolation

Choose the 6-Way when:

  • Both supply and return must switch simultaneously
  • Complete isolation of the off-line train is required
  • A single valve replaces two 3-Way valves
  • API 614 duplex filter switching is specified

Operating Instructions

1

Open equalizing/fill line valve and allow pressure to balance.

2

Turn "T" handle counterclockwise ≈6–7 turns.

3

Push ball handle down to unseat shoes.

4

Rotate ball handle 180° (red arrow points to active port).

5

Release ball handle and hand-tighten "T" handle clockwise (20 in-lb max).

6

Close equalizing valve.

Typical Applications

Duplex Filter Switching

Switch flow from an in-service filter to a standby filter without shutting down the process. Change filter elements on the offline unit while the system continues to run.

Duplex Strainer Changeover

Replace a conventional duplex strainer arrangement with a single 3-way valve and two simplex strainers — simpler piping, fewer potential leak points.

Pump Changeover

Redirect suction or discharge flow between duty and standby pumps with a single valve operation.

Cooler / Heat Exchanger Bypass

Divert flow around a heat exchanger or cooler for maintenance or temperature control without process interruption.

API 614 Lube Oil Systems

Continuous flow diversion on turbine lube oil and compressor seal oil systems per API 614 requirements.

Sample Point Isolation

Direct process fluid to an analyzer or sample point while maintaining normal flow through the main line.
