Universal Silencer is an operating division of the Filtration Business Unit of Cummins, Inc., with its global sister brands Fleetguard, Nelson, Kuss, Fleetguard Emission Solutions and Separation Technologies. Universal Silencer was founded in 1959 in Libertyville, Illinois, acquired by Nelson Industries, and moved to Stoughton, Wisconsin to join its parent company in 1975. In 1998, Cummins acquired Nelson Industries and integrated it with the existing Fleetguard brand.
