Type 664 and 666 Liquid Jet Exhauster Performance

Problem:
A liquid jet exhauster is required to handle 5.5 scfm of air at 10" HgA pressure and discharge against 10 psig pressure using 100 psig pressure water at 80'F". What size exhauster is needed and what are the actual operating air and water flow rates?
Solution:

A 1" Type 664 Exhauster handles 0.63 scfm of air under these conditions. Calculate a capacity ratio, CR, as follows: CR=5.5scIm/0.63scfm=8.8.

Use the next highest capacity ratio of 9 for a 3" unit.

The motive flow rate for the 3" exhauster will be 9 x 18.1 = 162.9 gpm at 100 psig pressure.

A 3" exhauster will handle 5.7 scfm of air at 10" HgA pressure using 163 gpm of 80°F water at 100 psig pressure.
For water temperatures higher or lower than 80°F, refer to the correction procedure outlined under Type 684/686 Exhausters on page 9 of this bulletin.
** Care should be taken when designing discharge piping and calculating discharge pressure requirements for 2 phase flow.
